That Time No One Came To Our Party

Seven years ago, my roommates at the time and I talked about having a Christmas dinner party.  You know, since we were SO grown up at 22.

My best friend and I planned it, and the tradition was born.  It continued every year with Jessica and I hosting.  The location rotated between my parents' house, our house in Athens, and my house I currently live in.

It's always been a ton of fun, our friends look forward to it (or so we thought...), and it's a ton of fun to get dressed up during the holidays with your friends.

2010 party...I hate my bangs here.
2011 party...a few of the attendees
This year was no different.  Jessica and I sent out invites, we planned the menu, and we wrote, recorded, and made our yearly video.  {Side note, several years ago we got it in our head to rewrite lyrics to Christmas songs and record them with our talents with a recorder and piano.  It happened each year.  Well, last year, we recorded lyrics to an instrumental version of "Call Me Maybe" and made a video to go with it.  So, we did that again this year.  It's a real classic.}

About three weeks before the party, we found out that the two people who live the furthest (Baltimore) couldn't make it because of travel difficulties.  Understandable.

We still had plenty of others who has RSVP'ed yes.

Then, the week leading up to the party, we get a text from a friend saying he and his fiance had a family illness and their Christmas had been moved around and it fell on our party date.  They could no longer attend.  Understandable.

We still had plenty of others who has RSVP'ed yes.

Then, the morning of the party, I get a phone call from another friend, and due to reasons that were out of her control, she couldn't make it.

Are you starting to see a pattern?

A couple hours later, we got a text from another friend saying she was pretty sick (she's allergic to gluten and had accidentally eaten some at a potluck the day before...and she's legit allergic and gets violently ill when she has gluten.  I know this because I lived with her in college).  Her and her fiance couldn't make it.

At this point, we were unsure of whether or not to continue the party.  After some texting we found out that the few who were remaining as possible attendees weren't coming after all.

That meant EVERY SINGLE PERSON WE INVITED CANCELLED ON US, except for one person, Paula.  And she is really like a co-hostess anyway.

We planned a party that NO ONE came to.  We couldn't stop laughing about the hilarity of it, and also how funny it was going to be when the people who couldn't come asked us about it later.

So, we did what any person in their right mind would do when no one shows up at their party...we continued on with it anyway.

We ate the delicious food we prepared, but just didn't put it out on the table with the fancy table cloths and whatnot

Crab stuffed mushrooms, buffalo chicken bites, peanut butter brownie

We had a white elephant gift exchange with our friend Paula

We watched movies

And the best part...we all wore sweats instead of pretty (but uncomfortable) clothes.

Now that's my kinda party.  Looks like all those losers missed out on a pretty ballin' time.  Suckaaaaassss.

Ahhhhh!!!! This is so hilarious and also sad? But funny!! I'm really glad that the three of you still partied on and ate the yummy food. That's the redemption of this story. But the rest of your friends-- punks, all of them!! :)
